Life on the Water: Fishing, Family & the Wild Alaskan Way

Every summer, when the salmon start running, our world shifts. Our family of five packs up and heads to our remote setnet site on the rugged northwest shores of Kodiak Island, smack in the middle of some of the wildest, most untouched land in Alaska. Out here, the tides and salmon migrations don’t just shape the fishing season—they dictate everything.

Our nets are anchored to the shoreline, catching salmon as they push toward their spawning grounds. And this isn’t some industrial operation with conveyor belts and machines doing the work. We’re out there in open skiffs, powered by outboard engines, hand-picking each fish ourselves. It’s a process that’s as exhausting as it is rewarding—every salmon pulled from the water is hard-earned, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Life Beyond the Catch

When we’re not on the water, life slows down—but only just enough to take on a different kind of work. We live off-grid in simple cabins, where the to-do list is never-ending. There’s gear to mend, gardens to tend, and countless little projects that keep this isolated corner of the world running.

And yet, for all the sweat and effort, there’s magic here. Towering mountains rise around us, the sky stretches on forever, and the ocean is alive with seals, whales, and the occasional curious bear watching from shore. Every so often, we look up from whatever we’re doing—hands covered in fish scales or dirt—and just breathe it all in.

This is home. This is the wild, raw, untamed Alaska that we love. And it’s exactly why we do what we do.

More Than Just Seafood—A Connection to Something Real

For us, fishing isn’t just a job. It’s a way of life. It’s about connection—to the land, the water, and to each other. And we believe that when you share real, thoughtfully harvested food, you’re not just feeding your body—you’re feeding something deeper.

That’s why we invite you to be part of our community, to bring our wild-caught salmon to your table. Because food is love. It’s the late-night dinners, the weekend barbecues, the meals made with care and shared with the people who matter most.

When you choose our wild Alaskan salmon, you’re not just buying seafood—you’re connecting to a place, a family, and a way of life that honors the incredible journey of this fish from ocean to plate.

So, let’s share in something real. Something wild. Something that brings us all just a little closer together.

Welcome to Hook Point. We’re so glad you’re here.
